According to his Twitter profile, Mr. McGowan has three children, Samuel, Alexandra and Amelia.
Health Minister Roger Cook said the prime minister was continuing to work out of isolation.
“I was at a committee meeting with the prime minister, who chaired it remotely. You can say he has the disease, but he is very strong,” he said.
Colleagues, including Senator Penny Wong, who was in town on a federal Labor election campaign, have been wishing for good.
“We all hope that every member of their family will recover completely and quickly,” she said.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison also spoke in support.
The state recorded more than 6,000 new cases overnight, with more than 44,000 cases active throughout the state.
Mr. Cook attributed the increase to people on vacation.
Both New South Wales and Victoria have now lifted the isolation rules for close contacts, and South Australia will join them next weekend.
But WA, which has the strictest rules during the pandemic, is not planned to follow.
Last week, officials said the number of hospitalizations was lower than predicted by modeling in the state.
