Three months after the High Health Authority’s (HAS) approval, the government confirms the expansion of “vaccination skills” for nurses, pharmacists and midwives who have proven successful during the Covid -19 epidemic. From now on, they will be able to vaccinate more widely, from Sunday 24 April, according to texts published on Saturday 23 April in the Official Journal.

This decision is of particular benefit to nurses who are now “qualified without a prescription” vaccine against fifteen diseases: influenza, rabies, diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, human papillomavirus, pneumococci, hepatitis (A and B), meningococci (A, B, C, Y and W). Caregivers will be able to perform these injections on all people “16 years of age and older who are recommended to do so.”

“A strengthened approach to prevention”

“It is a first step towards greater autonomy of the profession and a guarantee for our fellow citizens better access to prevention,” welcomed the President of the Order of Sisters Patrick Chamboredon.

Pharmacists are also “authorized” to provide the same list of vaccines to the same population aged 16 and over, but always on prescription. “In order to prescribe them, we are awaiting the opinion of the Medicines Agency,” recently detained by Health Minister Olivier Véran, explained Philippe Besset, President of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Associations of France (FSPF), the main association of the profession.

He hopes for this in the autumn, knowing that pharmacists have recently negotiated fees of € 7.50 to € 9.60 for the injectable vaccine, which will pay for social security from October.

In addition, many of the vaccines that midwives can “prescribe and administer” to pregnant women, newborns, and “people who regularly live in their environment” are aligned with the same pathologies.
